Welcome to WECHS
Friday, October 24, 2014 Principal’s Weekly Message
Hello WECHS’ families, this is your Principal, Lisa Cummings, calling with your weekly update.
Thank you to the PTSA and parent volunteers for celebrating Honor Roll Breakfast for students on PHS campus this morning–67% of the PHS Campus students were on the Honor Roll first 9 weeks. Our goal this 9 weeks is to have 100%!
Our WECHS team is walking tomorrow in the JDRF One Walk event at Walnut Creek Amphitheatre to help cure type 1 diabetes. To join the team or make a contribution, please visit our team page. The team has raised $453 of our $1,000 goal. http://www2.jdrf.org/site/TR?team_id=163061&pg=team&fr_id=3900&et=zf9LerIzGGp74O7cbn0CUw
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas loses the ability to produce insulin — a hormone essential to turning food into energy. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet and lifestyle. It requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on injected insulin.
With T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure. That’s why JDRF holds more than 200 Walks across the country every year to raise money for JDRF — the only global organization with a strategic research plan to end T1D.
Each year, JDRF Walks bring together more than 900,000 people who raise over $75 million for life-changing T1D research. This success is only possible because of the support, commitment, and strength of our community. Please register today.
Ms. Mary Ann Norwood is WECHS’ College Financial Aid Advisor. She will begin meeting with graduating Seniors and their families on Mondays through October, November, and December. Check with your graduating Senior to see if they have signed up to see Ms. Norwood, or you may email Mr. Citrini at email@example.com to sign up for a time slot.
Next Saturday, November 1st, is the WCPSS Magnet Fair. Ms. Sutton is seeking volunteers to work the WECHS booth at the Magnet Fair. This involves sharing information about our program to future applicants. For more information about the fair, please visit http://www.wcpss.net/blog/2014/10/save-the-date-magnet-early-college-fair-nov-1/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=save-the-date-magnet-early-college-fair-nov-1
